Star Wars
Painted after Ralph McQuarrie
Not the film. This is the 1976 Del Rey paperback, published as *Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker* — six months BEFORE the film, when McQuarrie's production paintings were the only images of Star Wars that existed anywhere. It was written from an early draft, so it carries a full Biggs subplot at Anchorhead and scenes that were never filmed. And it shipped without a single picture in it.
This is the one cycle in the Folio that is not an interpretation but a repair. The book came out too early, in a world with no visual vocabulary for it, illustrated by nothing. The paintings that would have been the obvious source were sitting in a production office at the time.
Illustrating that edition in his hand is not pastiche. It is finishing a book that arrived before its own pictures.
The unfilmed pages. Anchorhead, Tosche Station, Biggs before he leaves — five plates of a subplot most readers have never seen drawn, and the ones worth having, because they have no famous frame to be measured against.
